A fabulous weekend

We went to the Outer Banks this weekend so Jason could run the OBX Marathon. What a great weekend! Jason had Monday and Tuesday off because of the holiday, so we made a long weekend of it. I'm so glad we did! The weather was amazing! Saturday was in the low 70s (unreal!) and Sunday was perfect race weather, in the mid-60s.

Someone stopped us on the beach and asked us if we wanted a family photo and then she "welcomed" us to the Outer Banks, How nice!

We've been going to the Outer Banks for so long, it kind of feels like going home. However, we've never been there in the fall, and it was interesting to see it in post-hurricane season. The beach outside our hotel was severely eroaded...you could see where they trucked in sand and tarped it to keep it in place. The house next to our hotel has the biggest sandbags I've ever seen (it also had a For Sale sign...good luck with that!!!!) It's also amusing to see that they now have 2 Dunkin Donuts on the island, a Wal-Mart, and 5 grocery stores. When we first started going there you couldn't find a donut to save your life, let alone a Wal-Mart. While it's nice to be able to find all the "modern" conveniences, I kind of miss the less-crowded days out there.

Our hotel with the "fake" sand dunes.

I wanted Erin to stand next to the sand bags so you could get an idea of their size, but Jason wouldn't let us go near them...safety first!

So enough of my trip down memory lane and on to the important stuff.....Jason did AWESOME in his race! He took 20 minutes off his Kansas City Marathon time! He said he felt good and really enjoyed the race. We are sooo proud of him!!

Post-race! Yeah Jason!!! Final time: 3 hours 41 minutes 32.5 seconds.

Here he is looking good at mile 8....18 to go!
